Boldly Preaching Justice: A 9-week Lectionary Series for Worship Planning

Every socially conscience preacher, musician, and worship team member needs this fantastic resource.  It is intended to offer a framework for tackling the often-daunting subject of justice in worship. In a world as divided as ours, we must look to God for answers about racial, economic, physical and mental ability, gender, orientation, and environmental issues. This nine-week lectionary is designed for use during the ordinary liturgical year. The liturgical color green, which also coincides with the color of life, will be life-giving to those who are underserved or ignored in our society.  Those with voices of privilege will be empowered to use those voices for the good of all God’s people and to raise awareness of those often made invisible in society. The texts offered will come from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. An Old Testament (OT), Psalm (P), and New Testament (NT) text will be offered each week. All texts will be from the NRSV unless otherwise noted. Hymn suggestions will be made as a guide for planning musicians as well. Each 1st Sunday will have an additional communion hymn and supporting communion suggestions. In addition to the scriptures, suggestions will be given each worship day for the following: Call to Worship, Hymn of Praise, Hymn of Lament (Prayer Response), Anthem Suggestions, Confession, and Thematic Overview.
